Recently, we explored a concept where an existing bathroom was expanded by removing the wall between the bathroom and an adjoining storeroom. Rather than simply making the room bigger, we reimagined the entire space to create a modern, spa-inspired retreat.
The Challenge
The original bathroom was functional but limited by its size. It featured:
- A built-in bath with an overhead shower.
- A pedestal basin with little storage.
- Dated finishes.
- A separate storeroom that wasn’t being used efficiently.
By removing the dividing wall, the available floor space increased, allowing for a completely new layout.
Rethinking the Space
Instead of trying to fit everything into the existing footprint, we designed the bathroom around how people actually use the space.
The new concept includes:
- A spacious walk-in shower with a frameless glass enclosure.
- A freestanding bath positioned as the room’s focal point.
- A floating double vanity offering generous storage and countertop space.
- A wall-hung toilet for a cleaner, more open feel.
- Improved circulation that makes the room feel calm and uncluttered.
Every element has been carefully positioned to maximise both functionality and visual balance.
Modern Materials
The choice of materials plays a huge role in creating a luxurious atmosphere.
For this concept, we selected:
- Large-format porcelain floor and wall tiles to minimise grout lines and create a seamless finish.
- Warm timber cabinetry to introduce natural texture.
- Matte black tapware for a contemporary look.
- Frameless glass shower screens that keep the room feeling open.
- Stone-look countertops that combine durability with timeless style.
The result is a bathroom that feels sophisticated without being overly complicated.
